Acelity offers a recycling program for facilities and patients that allows safe disposal of their V.A.C.VIA™ System and PREVENA™ Incision Management System. Acelity provides this recycling program free of cost to the customer.

Recycling and Disposal Introduction

  • Products Eligible for Recycling

    The following single-patient NPWT products are currently available for recycling through Acelity.

    V.A.C.VIA Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System

    The V.A.C.VIA™ System streamlines access to Negative Pressure Wound Therapy into a purchased single-use, portable, discreet device that provides 7 days of V.A.C.® Therapy.
    V.A.C.VIA™ Starter Kit
    Device Disposal: At the end of therapy, follow local institutional protocols for infection control and waste disposal procedures for dressings and canisters. Local protocols for the disposal of the V.A.C.VIA™ System should be based on applicable federal, state and/or local government environmental regulations for recycling electronic devices.

    PREVENA Incision Management System

    The first powered negative pressure product designed specifically for management of closed surgical incisions. The PREVENA Incision Management System covers and protects the incision from external infectious sources, while negative pressure removes fluid and infectious material from the surgical incision.
    PREVENA™ PEEL & PLACE™ System – 20cm
    Device Disposal: Follow local institutional protocols for infection control and waste disposal procedures. Local protocols should be based on the applicable local government environmental regulations.
  • Recycling Instructions

    Thanks for helping Acelity be green! Acelity has partnered with Sharps Compliance Inc. for safe and environmentally friendly disposal of your Acelity single-patient use negative pressure therapy. This service is offered at no cost. Please do not include any other products in the box for disposal.
    1. Remove white mailback box from brown outer box, and recycle brown box.
    2. Remove the V.A.C.VIA™ Canister or PREVENA Canister from the therapy unit. Do not include the dressing or tubing in recyclable container. 
      *Disposal of canister and dressing: Follow local institutional protocols for infection control and waste disposal procedures for dressings and canisters. Patients      can contact their home health provider for assistance in proper disposal.
    3. Place therapy unit only in plastic bag (inside the mailback container) and secure with a twist tie.
    4. Place bag, carrying case, and other product items described under “Optional” in box. Optional: Include carrying case, power cord, or paper copy of                    instructions for use. 
    5. Close box flaps in numbered order. Place tape over the lock closure to secure in place.
    6. Ship.
  • Sharps Compliance Inc.

    Sharps is a leading full-service provider of cost-effective management solutions for medical waste and unused dispensed medications generated outside the hospital and large healthcare facility setting.
    Acelity is partnering with Sharps Compliance Inc. to provide simple recycling solutions for our customers. Sharps will convert Acelity single-patient NPWT devices into PELLA-DRX. This material is then used in the manufacturing of homes, highways, and even high rise buildings.
