About

Mobile, convenient and disposable V.A.C.® Therapy System

The V.A.C.VIA Therapy System is a disposable NPWT System that allows clinicians easy access to V.A.C.® Therapy for low exudating (<80ml/day) wounds, small- to medium-sized wounds (up to 250cm3), split-thickness skin grafts and immediate discharges from the acute care setting.

The V.A.C.VIA™ Therapy System:
  • Allows for convenient access to off-the-shelf therapy kits
  • Removes exudate and infectious materials
  • Can be transitioned to an outpatient setting for use in multiple care settings
  • Facilitates quick and easy application with fntuitive dressings and a simplified user interface
  • Delivers continuous negative pressure (-125mmHg or -75mmHg) and dynamic pressure control through the same mechanisms of action of other V.A.C.® Therapy Systems
  • Pulls the edges of the wound bed together using the unique V.A.C.VIA™ GRANUFOAM™ Spiral Dressing
  • Maintains a moist wound environment that promotes perfusion and granulation tissue formation
  • Acts as a closed system, providing a barrier to external infectious sources

How V.A.C.® Therapy creates an environment that promotes wound healing

Under negative pressure, V.A.C.® Therapy with proprietary V.A.C.® GRANUFOAM™ Dressings applies mechanical forces to the wound to create an environment that promotes wound healing. These forces are known as macrostrain and microstrain.1

Macrostrain is the visible stretch that occurs when negative pressure contracts the foam.

  • Draws wound edges together
  • Provides direct and complete wound bed contact
  • Evenly distributes negative pressure
  • Removes exudate and infectious materials

Microstrain is the microdeformation at the cellular level, which leads to cell stretch.

  • Reduces edema
  • Promotes perfusion
  • Promotes granulation tissue formation by facilitating cell migration and proliferation

Indications for Use

Before use, physicians should review complete risk information and essential prescribing information which can be found in the Instructions for Use

The V.A.C.VIA™ Therapy System is an integrated wound management system for use in acute, extended and home care settings.

When used on open wounds, the V.A.C.VIATherapy System is intended to create an environment that promotes wound healing by secondary or tertiary (delayed primary) intention by preparing the wound bed for closure, reducing edema, promoting granulation tissue formation and perfusion, and by removing exudate and infectious material. Open wound types include: chronic, acute, traumatic, subacute and dehisced wounds, partial-thickness burns, ulcers (such as diabetic, pressure or venous insufficiency), flaps and grafts.

When used on closed surgical incisions, it is intended to manage the environment of surgical incisions that continue to drain following sutured or staple closure by maintaining a closed environment and removing exudates via the application of negative pressure wound therapy.

Evidence & Outcomes

V.A.C.® Therapy has the largest body of evidence to date including over 1,000 peer reviewed articles, 45 of which are randomized controlled trials (RCTs). These studies have demonstrated positive clinical outcomes of NPWT, as well as the effectiveness of V.A.C.® Therapy in diabetic foot wounds, chronic wounds (e.g., pressure ulcers and lower extremity ulcers), and a variety of acute wounds. Some of these studies are listed below.
