Infected Wounds
About Infected Wounds
KCI provides an integrated portfolio of proven solutions to assist with the management of infected wounds, when combined with appropriate good clinical practice, such as debridement and systemic antibiotics. Our products have been shown to facilitate healing in the hospital or home.
The Science Behind Our Products
Our solutions are built on a deep scientific expertise, supported by a large body of clinical evidence.

Why It Matters
Every infected wound requires a decisive treatment plan to help rapidly clear the infection and re-establish an environment for healing. A decisive treatment regime can change the course and cost of infected wound management:
- In the average 500-bed hospital, infected wounds add 10 days to the length of stay and $2,185 in treatment costs per day 1,2
- A 30-day hospital readmission rate of 19.1% for infection ranks among the highest causes for readmission in U.S. hospitals 3
- Treating patients for Staphylococcus aureus infections, the most commonly identified pathogen in chronic wounds,4 more than triples the average hospital costs of other patients.
V.A.C.® Therapy
KCI provides a wide range of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) systems for hospital, community or home treatment. Since its launch in 1995, V.A.C.® Therapy has changed the way wounds are treated. Backed by more published clinical evidence than any other NPWT Systems, V.A.C.® Therapy has become the clinicians' treatment of choice for more than 10 million wounds worldwide.* V.A.C.® Therapy creates an environment that promotes wound healing through the application of negative (vacuum) pressure at the wound site. This helps to draw wound edges together, remove infectious materials and promote granulation.
*As of June 2016, more than 10m wounds have been treated worldwide with the V.A.C.® Therapy System.
SNAP™ Therapy System
The SNAP™ System combines the simplicity of advanced wound dressings with the proven benefits of negative pressure therapy in a discreet design.
Advanced Wound Dressings
A number of our advanced wound dressings such as SILVERCEL™ NON-ADHERENT Antimicrobial Alginate Dressing with EASYLIFT™ Precision Film Technology and PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix, help to reduce bacterial bioburden in the dressings, while our other advanced wound dressings such as ADAPTIC TOUCH™ Non-Adhering Silicone Dressing serve as a gentle silicone wound contact layer may be used in conjunction with primary or secondary dressings.
TIELLE™ Hydropolymer Dressings with LIQUALOCK™ Advanced Absorption Technology maintain a moist wound environment which can be conducive to wound healing; may be used in conjunction with a primary dressing such as PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Dressing, SILVERCEL™ NON-ADHERENT Dressing and ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Dressing. TIELLE™ Hydropolymer Foam Dressings can be used as secondary cover for primary dressings.
